Giving back to the community
Canon believes in the necessity of benefiting the community where it operates so we have actively participated in a wide variety of projects. These projects include activities to help the less fortunate in the community, support and upgrade learning conditions, schools' infrastructure for poor students as well as effort for environmental protection programs.
What Canon cares
With the inspiration of its business philosophy - "Kyosei" to enlighten every step in Vietnam, Canon has made significant contributions to various fields such as education, culture and community. During the time in Vietnam, Canon has attended many social programs such as supporting the Red Cross to treat and help victims of Agent Orange, the victims of calamity, supporting the "Vietnam Operation Smile" program to bring back the smiles to children, sponsoring the programs of voluntary eye surgery of doctors Hattori to bring back the light to the poor blind, building 100 gratitude houses as special gifts to present to Vietnamese hero mothers...
Canon commitment for fostering Vietnamese education
Always keeping in our heart the responsibility for the next generation as well as for the long-term commitment for Vietnamese education, Canon has contributed to various significant investment projects for developing Vietnamese education. The project "Canon Friendship Schools Chain" has been deployed with the worth of 7 billion VND since 2007 and continues till 2010. During that period, nearly 20 friendship schools had been handed over to teachers and students at mountainous or remote areas of Thanh Hoa, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Lai Chau...
In 2009, Canon officially announced the implementation of the charity project named "Canon – For the next generation" with the aim of providing the best studying facilities for poor pupils by improving the condition and environment of the schools at poor or remote areas such as providing a system of clean water and toilets, renewing school-yard, campus, making new paint layers for all the classrooms, planting trees around the school, etc...Besides, Canon also offered books and other studying facilities for the underprivileged pupils and schools in order to bring a good opportunity for them to effort. The program was launched first at two primary schools namely Tinh Cuong and Chuong Xa in Cam Khe District of Phu Tho province; after that it was took place in other provinces nationwide such as: Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Nai during 2009… At each school, staff of Canon and Le Bao Minh – Canon's distributor in Vietnam directly took part in the work of improving learning conditions such as decorating classrooms or planting trees...
For Canon projects supported and contributed to the development of education in Vietnam, in 2008 and 2009, Canon was awarded the merit "For the development of education in Vietnam" by the Minister of Education and Training.
The project in the partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
In 2010, with the concerns about various environmental issues and impacts of global climate change, Canon officially co-operates with the Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to implement a new project named "Canon - For a Green Vietnam" to contribute to global environment protection. This is a comprehensive project implemented by many aspects and many different methods to protect the environment and raise the sense of environment protection among the community.
The programs in the year-long "Canon - For a green Vietnam" implemented in 2010 include "Canon Environmental Bag Exchange" with the wish to encourage people to cut down plastic bag usage and recycle the used bags by providing a fashionable bag for multiple purposes, held from March to May; Afforest Program at Tan Son commune, Luc Ngan district of Bac Giang province; the project to propagandize environment protection for primary schools in April; environmental photo contest for the youth "Canon - Green Prism" from June to August and finally the "Green Library" program planned to begin its implementation from September.
Environmentally-conscious products, manufacturing and logistics
Efforts include energy and resource conservation, elimination of hazardous substances, increasing transportation efficiency to reduce CO2 emissions and utilising product-packaging materials with low environmental burden. Laser cartridges are also collected and recycled.
Increasing environmental awareness
To cultivate staff awareness and habits to protect the environment, Canon Singapore, as well as all the offices under Canon Asia Marketing Group, participated in the Earth Hour campaign on Saturday March 27, 2010.
Staffs were encouraged to participate in Earth Hour by turning off their home lights. This received an overwhelming response with staff voluntarily pledging their support. Earth Hour pledging raised the a
wareness of climate change and everyone can make a big difference in saving energy.
Declaration of conformity
Canon Group Products sold in Vietnam market complies with Circular 16/VBHN-BCT dated April 25, 2014 of the Ministry of Industry & Trade stipulating temporarily the permissible content limitation of some toxic chemicals in the electronic, electrical products.
